You have a lot of choices when looking for an editor, copy editor, proofreader, indexer, translator, writer, book designer, or other publishing or media professional. While I hope you’ll choose me, the reality is that my skill set and your needs won’t always match up. Below is a list of directories where you may be able to find the perfect freelancer for your project.
- Editorial Freelancers Association. Search EFA’s Member Directory by genre, geographical location of the editor, and more—the keyword list is quite extensive. You can also submit a freelance gig or job opening to the Job List for free—but please take a look at the Hiring Basics page before you do.
- ACES: The Society for Editing. You can search ACES’ Editors for Hire directory by keyword or by selecting which service you need (click on the red “Filters” text to see the available choices). Most jobs listed on the ACES Job Board are full-time, traditional jobs—but short-term freelance gigs are also welcome.
- Professional Editors Network. PEN’s Member Directory can be searched by keyword or fine-tuned to only look for a specific type of writer or style guide. You can also submit jobs to their member-only job list.
Good luck on your search.
